Wolves of Yellowstone latest victims of Bush Administration

The Bush/Cheney administration has just eliminated federal protections for wolves in Greater Yellowstone and the Northern Rockies, opening the door to the slaughter of hundreds of America’s most beloved wolves.

This decision leaves the region’s wolves at the mercy of outrageous state management plans that could lead to the killing of all but 300 wolves – eliminating 80% of all the wild wolves in Greater Yellowstone and the Northern Rockies.

We need to let the Bush/Cheney administration know that we strongly oppose this decision to remove Greater Yellowstone wolves from the list of federally protected threatened and endangered species.

Please sign our petition of protest and demand that the administration reverse its misguided decision and continue protecting Greater Yellowstone wolves under the Endangered Species Act.

Sign the petition to protect the wolves.

I strongly oppose the Bush/Cheney administration’s decision to allow wolves to be killed. This destroys the original purpose to raise the wolf population in the U.S. and protect them from being endangered. Now that that goal has been achieved, it is unreasonable to grant permission to lower that wolf population once again. The funds used for wolf protection are wasted, and this action by the Bush/Cheney administration appears to be the start of an unnecessary cycle of hunting and saving wolves.
Not only do wolves greatly contribute to the ecosystem, but they have not been proved to be any threat to the human population, with no recording of a healthy wolf attacking a human. Wolves as a threat to humans is merely a myth. Though people have complained about their livestock being killed or molested, this does not happen on a regular basis. Wolves only do this when they cannot find any other alternatives for food–and the cause for wolves eating livestock is ultimately our fault for hunting their prey and destroying parts of their habitat. Allowing wolves to be killed is neither the best or the moral way to solve this problem.
Thank you for your attention. I hope you reconsider your decision, and choose an alternative solution that does not endanger hundreds of lives.
